Titanic Quarter

Belfast

We are providing ongoing heritage planning advice and have secured listed building and scheduled monument consents for the former Harland and Wolff Headquarters (Grade B2) listed building; the Hamilton Graving Dock; and the Titanic and Olympic Slipways as part of the wider masterplan for the Titanic Quarter.

Location: Queen's Island, Belfast
Status: Listed Building and Scheduled Monuments Consents granted
Size: Various Sites.
Scale: City

The former Harland and Wolff Headquarters building was the administration centre and drawing office for the highly respected Harland & Wolff shipyard.

In collaboration with other consultants, we assisted the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) in the preparation of a Conservation Statement in March 2006, which sets out the views of NIEA on the historic significance of each section of the Titanic Quarter's Phase II site; its vulnerabilities; and the overarching Conservation Principles.

We successfully obtained outline planning permission in July 2008 for the wider Phase II site which established in principle the re-use of the Headquarters Building for a range of leisure, cultural and commercial uses.

Planning approvals for the restoration and part change of use of the listed former Harland and Wolff Drawings Offices to provide two function rooms and erection of
rear pavilions and Scheduled Monument Consent for the restoration of the Hamilton Graving Dock and associated public realm were granted in 2009.

We recently submitted an application (and listed building consent application) for the refurbishment and extension of the remaining part of the listed building for the provision of a 5* boutique hotel.

A planning application for the restoration of the Titanic and Olympic Slipways will
be submitted in late 2010 as part of the ongoing heritage developments.
